Obverse description	Left-facing draped bust of Marianne, the allegorical female personification of the French Republic, wearing a winged helmet and her hair arranged in a classical chignon. In the lower field, cargo ships are depicted on either side of the bust, evoking the territory's maritime character and the port of Djibouti. The engraver's signature L. BAZOR and initials GB appear in the lower field. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE frames the design, with the word ESSAI to the right of the bust and the date 1969 in the exergue.
