| Reverse description | The frontal head of a zebu (Bos indicus), the national symbol of Madagascar, is depicted in high relief at the centre of the field, its long, upward-curving horns framing the denomination above. The numeral 1 appears at the top between the horn tips, with the legends FRANC and IRAIMBILANJA inscribed successively below within the arc of the horns. Flanking the zebu head are two sprigs of local vegetation — a rice stalk to the left and a coffee or vanilla branch to the right — while two small privy marks are visible in the upper field to either side. The word ESSAI appears in the lower field beneath the animal's chin, identifying the piece as a pattern strike. |
