| Obverse description | Yellow-orange underprint with blue letterpress printing throughout. Two standing male figures in period dress flank the central field — the left identified as Montaigne and the right as Daumesnil — each set against ornate columnar borders. French chambers of commerce issued emergency fractional notes throughout the First World War to address a near-total disappearance of small coinage from circulation — hoarding and metal requisition had stripped the country of its centimes and small franc pieces by 1915. The Périgueux chamber was among dozens of provincial bodies pressed into this role, operating as de facto local currency authorities with no banking infrastructure behind them.
Ronteix was a local Périgueux printer, not a specialist banknote house, which shows in the relatively modest production values. The watermarked paper was the primary security measure — a telling indication of how thin resources were.
