| Obverse description | Uniface letterpress-printed emergency bon de monnaie in green on a cream paper underprint bearing the issuer name repeated diagonally across the field. At centre top, an oval vignette encloses a allegorical figure, flanked by the issuer legend in two parts. In August 1914, within days of France's mobilization order, hoarding stripped small-denomination coins from circulation almost overnight. Chambers of commerce across northern France — Boulogne among them — were authorized to fill the gap with emergency paper, and this note is a direct product of that crisis. The violet corner values distinguish this particular type within the Boulogne series, a variation catalogued under JP#31.24 that spans an issue window running nearly two years.
Boulogne's position as a major Channel port gave the shortage particular urgency; the town was processing enormous volumes of British troop movements by late 1914.
