| Obverse description | Printed entirely in dark red on cream paper with a text-based watermark underprint repeating 'CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE BETHUNE' across the entire field. The centre carries the denomination 'UN FRANC' and the date '17 Avril 1916' flanked by two symmetrical vignettes, each composed of a classical column topped by a capital, supported by two confronted griffins rampant on a decorative plinth. Two circular cartouches, one to the left and one to the right of the central text, bear redemption notices in letterpress. The whole is enclosed within a decorative geometric border, with the series number and fractional serial noted at the lower left and right respectively, and the printer's imprint at the lower right. |
