Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of Marianne, the allegorical figure of the French Republic, helmeted and with flowing hair, rendered in high relief at center. The bust is framed by an open laurel and oak wreath tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE runs along the upper periphery, while the engraver's name BORY appears incuse at the lower base of the bust. The overall design reflects the classical Republican allegorical style prevalent in late 19th and early 20th century French coinage.
