Belgian military francs issued under the Armée Belge / Belgisch Leger designation were produced for use by Belgian forces returning to their own territory in the final phases of World War II and the immediate occupation period. The parallel military currency system was necessary because the civilian franc had been badly compromised — the Germans had printed occupation francs freely, and the liberation government needed a way to separate military spending from the contaminated civilian supply before the monetary reform of October 1944 had fully taken hold.
P#M1 is the lowest denomination in the Belgian military series, and surviving examples in any condition are not common — the notes were largely spent and discarded rather than saved.
