Reverse description A tall, naturalistic palm tree dominates the center of the field, its trunk bisecting the denomination numeral '1' and the letter 'F' (for Franc) placed on either side at mid-height, with the word ESSAI inscribed to the right. The date 1920 is split by the tree trunk and appears below the denomination. The colonial issuer name CONGO BELGE curves along the lower rim within a toothed border.
