Tromelin is an uninhabited French territory in the Indian Ocean whose sovereignty has been formally disputed by Mauritius since 1976, and intermittently by Madagascar — making any coin issued in its name a political object as much as a numismatic one. France administers it through the TAAF, but no post office, no resident population, and no local economy exists to give a circulating franc any practical function. These issues are produced entirely for the collector market.
