Obverse description Within a plain inner circle bordered by a rope or beaded cordon, the monogram NOC occupies the central field in large Gothic characters, with a small pellet above the O. The surrounding marginal legend in Latin reads M LVDOVICVS NOC, distributed around the circumference and separated by pellet stops, referencing Marquis Ludovico of Saluzzo. The overall style is characteristic of late-medieval Italian billon coinage, with a somewhat irregular flan produced by hand hammering.
