Hungary's 1 Forint of this period was issued under the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867, which granted Hungary its own separate monetary apparatus within the Dual Monarchy. The forint — distinct from the Austrian gulden in nomenclature though equivalent in value — was a direct political concession, giving Budapest its own mint authority and coinage identity for the first time in generations.
The Kremnitz Mint (Körmöcbánya) struck these throughout the decade. H#2138 and H#2139 catalogue separate varieties, distinguishing minor reverse differences that collectors frequently overlook when attributing examples.
