Obverse description Full-length frontal figure of St. Tryphon, patron saint of Kotor, standing in the field. The saint holds a palm frond (feather) in his left hand and a model of a castle or fortified city in his right hand, a common iconographic attribute identifying him as protector of the city. The crude hammered style is typical of late 15th-century Venetian colonial copper coinage. The legend S-TRIFON * CATARI flanks the figure, identifying the saint and the city of Cattaro (Kotor).
