| Obverse description | Armored half-length bust of Gábor Báthori facing right, wearing plate armor with a sash across the chest, within a beaded inner circle. The mintmaster's initials CV appear in the field to the left of the figure. The surrounding Latin legend reads GAB. D. G. PRIN. TRA. ET. SIC. COM. C V, identifying the ruler as Gabriel by the Grace of God, Prince of Transylvania and Count of the Székelys. The portrait is rendered in a bold, slightly crude hammered style typical of early seventeenth-century Transylvanian gold coinage. |
