Additional information

Edward VIII abdicated in December 1936 before any coins bearing his effigy entered circulation, making all Edward VIII denominations pattern or proof issues. This florin is a modern restrike produced for the collector market, not a 1936 mint product. The original 1936 patterns were struck at the Royal Mint in very limited numbers and are held primarily in institutional collections; what circulates among private collectors today are later restrikes of varying provenance and authenticity claims.

The gold plating over sterling silver is a commercial finishing choice with no historical precedent in Royal Mint practice for this type.
