Additional information

Aruba's currency came into existence on January 1, 1986, the same day the island achieved its separate status from the Netherlands Antilles — a political separation that had been negotiated specifically to forestall full independence, which Aruba later indefinitely postponed in 1994. The florin was introduced as part of that arrangement, pegged to the US dollar at 1.79 AFL, a rate that has held without adjustment ever since.

The shift to nickel plated steel from the earlier nickel composition reflects a cost-driven reminting decision made sometime in the production run — worth noting when attributing examples from the later dates.
