| Obverse description | Centrally placed quartered shield of manifold arms bearing the complex heraldic devices of the Tizzone family, surmounted by a ducal crown, all set within a beaded inner circle. The escutcheon is divided into multiple quarters with a smaller central inescutcheon, the whole composition rendered in the bold, flat relief characteristic of hammered Italian gold coinage of the early seventeenth century. The circumferential Latin legend runs continuously around the outer field within the coin's irregular border. |
