Obverse description Central field displays the arms of the city of Hildesheim: a crowned eagle displayed within a quartered shield, the lower portion featuring a crosshatched or hatched base. The shield is flanked by decorative scrollwork or wing-like ornamental flourishes on either side. The date 1620 is inscribed in the upper arc of the field, with the numerals arranged around the top of the coin. The coin's border features a toothed or beaded rim. The overall style is characteristic of early seventeenth-century German municipal coinage struck by the hammered method.
