Obverse description Full-length facing figure of Saint Ferdinando in armour, standing erect within the field, holding a raised sword over the right shoulder and a lantern in the left hand. The effigy is rendered in the baroque style typical of hammered coinage of the Italian states. The date 1639 and denomination numeral 10 appear within the surrounding Latin legend. The inscription SANCTVS FERDINANDVS runs along the periphery, identifying the patron saint of the Gonzaga lordship of Castiglione delle Stiviere.
