Obverse description Central field features the papal arms of Julius II (Giuliano della Rovere): a shield charged with an oak tree (rovere), the dynastic emblem of the della Rovere family, set within an oval cartouche. The shield is surmounted by the papal tiara (triregnum) and crossed keys of Saint Peter, the traditional symbols of the pontificate. Flanking the shield at the sides are decorative foliate or acorn-bearing oak branches, consistent with della Rovere heraldic imagery. The surrounding legend reads IVLIVS·II·PONT·MAX, identifying Julius II as Supreme Pontiff, rendered in Gothic-influenced capital letters characteristic of early sixteenth-century papal coinage. The entire design is executed in the bold, high-relief hammered style typical of Renaissance-era Papal States gold florin coinage.
