Obverse description A quartered shield occupies the central field, divided by a long cross into four quarters; the dexter quarters bear the lion of the Livonian Order and the sinister quarters display a crosshatched lozenge pattern representing the arms of the Archbishopric of Riga. The date, split as 15 and 15 (or 16), is inscribed within the upper two quarters of the cross. A circular Latin legend in uncial characters surrounds the shield, reading in segments separated by dots and dashes, attributing the coin jointly to the Archbishop of Riga and the Master of Livonia. The overall style is characteristic of late medieval Germanic hammered coinage.
