Obverse description Seated figure of King David, crowned and robed, facing left, playing a harp; a large royal crown appears in the upper field above the figure. The legend FLOREAT : REX is arranged around the periphery in Latin majuscules, reading from lower left upward and continuing to the right. The composition is rendered in a bold, deeply engraved baroque style consistent with mid-seventeenth-century Irish coinage practice.
