| Obverse description | One quarter of a hammered silver penny, retaining a portion of the crowned facing royal effigy of Henry II in the romanesque style typical of Short Cross coinage class 1a. The fragment preserves part of the king's crowned head with visible facial features, and the upper portion of the sceptre held in the right hand. A section of the Latin legend runs along the curved outer edge of this quarter-farthing piece, produced by cutting a full penny into four equal parts. |
