| Obverse description | Facing crowned effigy of King Edward III occupies the central field, rendered in the angular, stylised manner characteristic of mid-14th-century English hammered coinage. The crown is notably tall, a key diagnostic feature of the second coinage series. A six-pointed star appears after the abbreviation ANG in the encircling Latin legend. The portrait displays the king in regal frontality with schematic facial features and a pellet-bordered inner circle. The surrounding inscription reads + EDWARDVS REX ANG * in uncial letterforms. |
