| Obverse description | The obverse displays two crossed sceptres in saltire surmounted by a royal crown, all set within a beaded inner circle. The design is characteristically crude in execution, consistent with the emergency hammered coinage of the Civil War period. A mullet or star device appears above the crown. The surrounding legend reads CAROLV. D: G. MAG: BR, partially visible owing to the irregular flan and off-centre strike. The entire design is enclosed within an outer beaded border. |
