| Reverse description | Reverse flan displays a bold two-line Arabic inscription in raised Naskh script reading 'Mahmud Shah al-Sultan', identifying the issuing ruler Nasir ud-din Mahmud Shah I of the Sultanate of Gujarat. The legend is arranged in a compact square-panel format typical of Gujarati falus coinage, with heavy, rounded letterforms deeply struck into the copper flan. Areas of green patination are visible in the recessed fields between strokes. The flan is irregular and slightly domed, consistent with hand-hammered production methods of the late 15th to early 16th century. |
