Additional information

Ali Adil Shah I ruled Bijapur from 1557 to 1580, a reign defined by the decisive coalition victory at Talikota in 1565 that destroyed the Vijayanagara Empire — Bijapur's most powerful rival. The copper falus of this period served the lowest tier of daily commerce, and surviving examples in any condition are scarcer than the sultanate's silver and gold issues, which attracted far more collector attention historically.
