Qandahar's civic coinage of the 1770s occupies an awkward interregnum in Afghan monetary history. Taimur Shah had moved the Durrani capital from Qandahar to Kabul in 1775 — just a year before this piece was struck — leaving the city's mint operating under municipal rather than royal authority, which accounts for the "City of" issuer attribution rather than a dynastic one.
