| Obverse description | Central field bearing a multi-line Arabic Kufic inscription arranged in horizontal registers within a plain inner border, enclosed by a beaded outer border. The legends, executed in raised relief characteristic of early Abbasid provincial coinage, carry the Islamic declaration of faith. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, with the text occupying the majority of the die area. The script is angular Kufic in style, typical of 3rd-century AH copper issues from the Cilicia region. |
