The Saltukids were a Turcoman dynasty controlling Erzurum and its surrounding highlands — one of the smaller but strategically positioned principalities that emerged as Seljuk central authority fragmented in eastern Anatolia during the twelfth century. Diya' al-Din Ayyub ruled for a short window in the 1140s, and copper fals from his reign are among the rarest survivals from this dynasty, which itself was extinguished by the Saltukid's Georgian and later Seljuk neighbors before the century closed.
