| Obverse description | The copper-nickel clad nickel center depicts a three-quarter facing bust of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the celebrated Austrian composer, rendered after the celebrated unfinished portrait by Joseph Lange. Mozart is shown wearing an 18th-century powdered wig and period court attire with a ruffled collar, executed in finely modelled relief. The denomination '1 EURO' appears to the right of the portrait in the field, with the mint year inscribed vertically along the left inner border. The engraver's signature appears below the bust, and the nickel-brass outer ring bears twelve raised five-pointed stars representing the member states of the European Union. |
