| Reverse description | The copper-nickel clad nickel center displays the large numeral '1' to the left, overlaid upon a cartographic rendering of Europe in the second standard reverse design introduced in 2008, engraved by Luc Luycx. The map depicts the full geographic extent of the European continent including non-Eurozone nations, replacing the earlier design that showed only the fifteen original EU member states. The inscription 'EURO' appears in the field to the right of the numeral. The nickel-brass outer ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union arranged in a continuous circle, and the designer's initials 'LL' are discreetly incorporated into the design. |
