Obverse description The nickel-brass inner disc features a highly detailed rendition of the Brian Boru harp, the traditional symbol of Ireland, depicted in high relief at centre. The Irish-language country name 'éire' appears in the left field, while the date is inscribed to the right of the harp. The outer ring, struck in nickel brass, bears twelve five-pointed stars arranged in a circle, representing the member states of the European Union, engraved by Jarlath Hayes.
