Obverse description Central field occupied by the crowned quartered shield of Spain, displaying the arms of Castile (castle), León (lion), Aragon (pales), and Granada (pomegranate), with the royal crown above. The mint mark 'S' and assayer initial 'M' appear to the right of the shield. The encircling Latin legend reads PHILIPPUS V DEI GRA, identifying Philip V as king by divine grace, with decorative stops separating the words.
