| Obverse description | Central crowned quartered shield bearing the arms of Castile, León, Aragon, and Granada, with a small escutcheon of the House of Austria at the fess point, all within an ornate crowned cartouche. The shield is rendered in the characteristic bold, slightly irregular style of hammered coinage. A partial Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading CAROLVS · II · D · G, identifying the issuer as Charles II by the Grace of God. The field displays the typical uneven surface associated with the cob-style (macuquina) minting technique employed at the Barcelona mint. |
