| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Carlos III facing right, employed as the effigy of Carlos IV during the transitional coinage of 1789–1791, as was customary practice before new portrait dies were prepared. The legend CAROL IV D G HISP ET IND R encircles the bust, reading from left to right along the periphery. The date 1791 appears in the lower exergue, flanked by pellets. The coin's milled border is visible at the rim, and the portrait retains the mature, armored style associated with the Carlos III bust type used at the Santiago Mint. |
