Obverse description Armored and draped bust of King Carlos III facing right, wearing a wig with queue tied by a bow, occupying the central field. The royal effigy is rendered in the standard bust portrait style common to Spanish colonial gold coinage of the period. The encircling Latin legend reads CAROL • III • D • G • HISP • ET IND • R •, divided around the portrait, with the four-digit date 1783 placed in the exergue at the bottom, flanked by pellets.
