Obverse description Crowned quartered shield of the Spanish Royal Arms occupying the central field, displaying the castles of Castile and lions of León in the first and fourth quarters, with the pomegranate of Granada in base. The shield is surmounted by an ornate royal crown. A partial circular legend in Latin runs along the outer border, partially visible due to the irregular flan typical of hammered coinage. Mint mark and assayer initial appear in the field to the sides of the shield.
Obverse script Latin
Obverse lettering CAROLVS·II·D·G
