Obverse description Central field displays the Chilean coat of arms, featuring a quartered shield supported by a huemul deer on the left and a condor on the right, each wearing a crown, with a palm tree and feathers above the shield. The supporters stand on a decorative base, all rendered in moderate relief characteristic of early Republican Chilean coinage. The circumferential legend REPUBLICA DE CHILE arcs across the upper field in bold Latin letters, while the date 1838 appears in the lower exergue flanked by small decorative stars. The coin is bordered by a toothed or beaded inner rim consistent with milled coinage of the period.
