| Obverse description | Central device depicts the early arms of Chile: two volcanoes rising from a mountainous landscape beneath a radiant sun with a facing solar effigy at their summits, all enclosed within a wreath of laurel and other foliage tied at the base with crossed branches. The date 1818 appears in the lower field within the wreath, commemorating Chilean independence. The circular legend EL ESTADO DE CHILE CONST. INDEPENDIEN runs around the periphery, interrupted at the base, with a rosette ornament at the foot of the design. The entire composition is enclosed within a finely milled border. |
