Obverse description Within a thin inner circle, a crowned lion rampant on a shield, flanked on either side by a large letter B. The legend, commencing with the hand mintmark of Antwerp, encircles the entire design. The shield is rendered in the heraldic style typical of late sixteenth-century Brabantine coinage, with the crowned lion of Brabant as the central armorial device.
