| Obverse description | Draped bust of Louis XVI facing left, wearing a finely detailed coat adorned with the Order of the Golden Fleece, his hair elaborately powdered and styled in the fashion of the late Ancien Régime with long flowing locks. The effigy, engraved by Pierre-Benjamin Duvivier, is rendered in high relief with exceptional sculptural quality. A toothed border frames the design. The circular Latin legend reads LUD. XVI. D. G. FR. ET NAV. REX., identifying the king as Louis XVI, by the Grace of God, King of France and Navarre. |
