Reverse description A floriated cross composed of four elaborate interlocking scrolled volutes, each terminating in a fleur-de-lis at the four cardinal points, occupies the center of the field. A quatrefoil lozenge at the intersection of the cross contains the mint letter, here 'A' for Paris. The arms of the cross are formed by pairs of confronted C-scrolls joined at center, with fleurs-de-lis projecting at top and bottom and from the lateral arms. The encircling Latin legend, separated by pellets and a floral stop, incorporates the date 1641. The overall design is typical of the reformed écu d'or type introduced during the reign of Louis XIII.
