Reverse description The reverse bears a bold three-line Latin legend in capital letters across the field, reading 'INDIAE / BATAV:' above the date '1808', with a small six-pointed star ornament centered at the top of the field above the legend. The lettering is deeply struck with serifs, occupying the full face of the coin with no surrounding border legend. The overall design is plain and typographic, characteristic of utilitarian colonial coinage of the Batavian period.
