Reverse description A rampant lion to the left, rendered in the traditional heraldic style of the Dutch provinces, holds aloft a liberty pole crowned with a flat Phrygian hat in its raised forepaw and a bundle of arrows in the other, symbolising the unity of the Dutch provinces. The lion stands within a fenced garden enclosure, a motif long associated with the seal and arms of the Province of Holland. The design is contained within a milled border matching that of the obverse.
