Reverse description The reverse displays the abbreviated city name and date arranged in three lines within an ornate quatrefoil cartouche: CIV on the first line, TRAIECT on the second, and the date 1690 on the third. Small lozenge-shaped ornaments punctuate the spaces between the arms of the quatrefoil. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded outer border. The inscription CIV TRAIECT is a Latin abbreviation for Civitas Traiectensis, meaning City of Utrecht, consistent with the municipal Latin naming convention used on Dutch provincial coinage of the period.
