Reverse description Central device depicts the armed maiden of Zeeland, the province's personification, rising half-length from stylized waves, her upper body clad in armour and wearing a crown, her right arm raised. Below her torso is the quartered shield of Zeeland bearing wavy barry lines surmounted by a lion, representing the provincial arms. The circular legend LUCTOR · ET · EMERGO, the motto of Zeeland meaning 'I struggle and overcome', runs around the periphery between pellet stops, contained within a milled border.
