Reverse description The reverse presents a plain field bearing the three-line Latin inscription CIV. / TRAIECT / 1657, arranged within a decorative cartouche or scroll border, with the abbreviation CIV. (Civitas, meaning City) at the top, TRAIECT (Traiectum, the Latin name for Utrecht) in the center, and the date 1657 at the bottom. The entire composition is enclosed within a beaded outer border. The design is characteristically plain and typographic, as was standard for Dutch Republic copper duit coinage of the period.
