Obverse lettering ✶ ♜ ✶ ZEE LAN DIA 1753
(Translation: Zeeland)
Reverse description The crowned arms of Zeeland occupy the central field, depicting a shield party per fess with a lion passant guardant emerging from three horizontal wavy bars representing the sea, a characteristic motif of the province. The shield is surmounted by a pearl-studded crown with foliate finials. The circular legend LUCTOR ET EMERGO runs along the periphery, divided at the base, and is rendered in Roman capitals. The overall engraving style is bold and slightly coarse, consistent with the provincial copper coinage of the Dutch Republic in the eighteenth century.
