Obverse description Armored draped bust of Ranuccio I Farnese, Duke of Parma and Piacenza, facing left, wearing an elaborately engraved cuirass with ruffled collar. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the curly hair and beard. The circular Latin legend runs along the outer border, reading RAIN·FARN·PAR·ET·PLAC·DVX·IV, with a beaded inner border separating the legend from the field.

Reverse description Two standing male figures, rendered as allegorical supporters, flank a flowering plant rising from the ground; together they raise and support a ducal crown above the plant. The circular Latin legend VISITAM·MERITIS runs along the outer border, divided by the figures, with a beaded inner border framing the composition throughout.
