| Obverse description | The obverse features the winged Lion of St. Mark in high relief, seated facing left with its forepaw resting on an open gospel, its wings prominently spread. To the right stands the kneeling figure of Doge Pietro Grimani in ducal robes, presenting himself before the lion in a devotional posture. A patriarchal cross staff rises between the two figures. The circular Latin legend reads ·S·M·V·PETRVS·GRIMANI·D·, with the mintmaster's initials F·P appearing in the exergue below. |
