| Obverse description | The Lion of St. Mark seated to left occupies the left portion of the field, while Doge Paolo Renier kneels in profile to the right, receiving a staff surmounted by a cross and pennant — an attribute of ducal authority. The composition follows the traditional Venetian votive type, with the doge in ceremonial robes presenting himself before the republic's heraldic symbol. Mintmaster's initials appear in the exergue below the figures. The Latin legend surrounding the design identifies the doge by name and title. |
